Jammu hopes for peace as Samiti to talk with govt
August 23rd, 2008, Jammu  (NDTV)
Across the divide in Jammu, protesters in Jammu are also set to intensify their agitation. But there is finally a glimmer of hope.

The Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti, which is leading the protests, could sit down for talks with the government on Friday.

The Samiti has been refusing to come to the negotiating table but on Thursday it accepted the government"s fourth offer of talks with the four member committee set up by the Governor, raising hopes of a possible solution to a controversy that has so deeply divided the state.

But the Samiti has already made it clear to the government that it should not try to use dialogue as a means to slow down the momentum of the agitation. There were violent protests in Jammu on Thursday.
