Filmi rivalry heats up Andhra politics
August 22nd, 2008, Hyderabad  (NDTV)
For the last 30 years, the two superstars of Telugu cinema Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna have competed to establish who is the bigger of the two stars.

Now their rivalry spills over on the streets of Andhra Pradesh too.

Chiraneevi is now a neta and Balakrishna has said he will campaign for the Telugu Desam Party.

And when Chiranjeevi was asked about Balakrishna, he said, "I don"t think Balakrishna would be a worry for us."

But Balakrishna refused to comment on Chiranjeevi.

Chiranjeevi has nearly 3000 fan clubs in the Andhra Pradesh. Balakrishna comes second highest with 2500 fan clubs. Experts say that if Chiranjeevi has the charm to pull crowds in Andhra region, then Balakrishna"s fiery dialogues would weave magic in the coastal areas, where he is most popular.

For now, Chiranjeevi is working overtime to ensure that his maiden public meeting as a politician in Tirupati on August 26 is a super hit. That"s where the megastar would announce his party name, symbol and agenda.

"The show will be people"s style, they will like it. It won"t be regular or filmy," Chiranjeevi said.
